New Years Eve 2013

I set out to have an amazing night with my family.
I had huge plans to do an hourly activity countdown with Shelby.

Guess what?

I found that it did not matter to her. She just wanted to have fun.

I realized that my family just wanted to have fun abd not make a huge ordeal about it.

So.....we spent time together. We still did activities but not with the huge set up and production.

I went to the dollar stire earlier today and got supplies for a grand night.

First we got all fancied up and went to a party at my grandparents.  They invited some friends over and had a great dinner. Shelby showed off her skills on her iPad.

Then we came home and had fun with some dollar store activities.

Now all kids are in bed and it time for the hubby and I to celebrate.
I love that he will ring in the start of what I am sure to be an awesome year with me.

2013 review

Today is the last day of 2013.

We will be spending time as a family doing some fun things. I have hourly plans like this that I planned for Shelby. (Check back tomorrow for our version of New Years.)

I have watched my family grow in 2013. Mentally and physically.

As I was looking through photos for this post, and there is a lot, I became sad. Sad that my kids are growing by leaps and bounds. They are no longer babies. I am also happy to see this as well. They are healthy and growing. They are becoming their own person. They need me a little less everyday. They are becoming independent.

Shawn started out 2013 like this:

Here he is at the end of 2013:

2013 was big for him. He has learned to crawl and walk. He waves and says hi.

Shelby started out 2013 like this:

Ended like this:

I have seen the biggest change in her. She has gone from a little girl to a big girl right before my eyes.  She has potty trained and started school. Her speech has been a huge improvement. No more baby talk. (sad face) She is a

I have also reflected on my own growth. I have become stronger mentally. I am happier with every new day then I was in the past. I am stronger physically.  I started back running races and get stronger with each one I do. I ran my first relay race which was a step out of the box for me.

Our family has changed a lot over the year:
 2013:

But I think the biggest thing that happened in our family is: We became grandparents!!!

This little boy came into our lives and has been such a blessing.

We are so greatful for what we have and been able to experience in 2013 and are looking forward to 2014.

We wish you and your family a bright New Year.

Bakers Dozen Half Marathon.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of running and eating at the Bakers Dozen Half Marathon.
I know you are wondering...eating? And running?
Yep. You run a loop of over 3 miles eat a snack from the Sugar Shack and then run the loop again. You run the loop 4 times. You have to eat at least 3 treats to earn your medal.
The Sugar Shack

Here we are at the start. I got to run this with my good friend Lexie. We ran the Lake Powell Half together a few months ago also. Of course I love any excuse to dress up so we were Naughty Elves.

We werent the only ones dressed up. Check out the guy in green. That is a full suit.

The group that ran.

I loved that it was a small group if people. We had the most fun.

For part of each loop  we had to run through snow. We walked. There were times when we about fell on the ice.

Some proof we ate our treats

I have got to work on my jumps. I can not jump for crap.  I always look ridiculous.

I absolutely loved this race. I should not say race cause it is really all for fun.

Even so my 10th half marathon is in the books. So glad that I am able to run.

Thanks Lex for doing it with me.  Such a great day.

Thanks for the great photos Alex Santiago. Thanks Cory for a fabulous time.

Frozen

While my sister and her family were here visiting we got to go seethe new Disney movie Frozen
We all loved it. It was such a great story with lovable characters. Shelby is in love with Elsa.

Shelby sat through the whole movie with no problems. A big double thumbs up from us.

Thanksgiving

Our Thanksgiving was a wonderful time with my mom and sister. We had so much fun.
We laughed. Kids screamed. We ate.
It was so great to see my sister. I haven't seen her in a year and it was a much needed time together.

Our girls were so excited to see each other. They are such girls. They laughed. They fought. They missed each other at night.

On Thanksgiving day they had a scavenger hunt in the yard. It was so fun to watch them explore and find things.

Shawn and I dressed in camo. We were turkey hunters.

Gram and Shan digging in to the awesome dinner we cooked.

The best part for me was watching the girls play with their Grammy. They had tea and played ring around the rosie. They even read stories.
I hate my family lives so far away. We cherish the time we have together for sure.
I am truly thankful for each one of them.

Birthday celebration #1

So last night we celebrated Mr Man turning 1.

Nothing big just a little family dinner with cake and ice cream.

We will be having the BIG shindig at Thanksgiving.

He got in a good practice with his cake:

I only had a small freak out that it was all over everything. Good job buddy.

one year

This might be the saddest and happiest post I ever write.

My baby. My last child. My baby boy turned one today.

I am shedding a tear. He is the last one to turn one.

He has been so much fun this last year. We have laughed so much with him. He is so full of life.

As sad as I am that he is turning one, I am also so happy to watch him grow even more.

Potty Training

So back when I was pregnant with Mr man I planned on potty training the diva. I did not want to have 2 kids in diapers. It was a great plan till I got to big to bend down and help her.

So we waited. Then she had NO interest. She would cry at the mention of putting panties on. So we waited. I figured that she would want to when she saw her friends at school doing it.

Well 2 months into school and that didn't work.

Well a week ago last Sunday I just told her we were putting panties on. She was fine with that. She was great about it. No accidents all day. Then a diaper at night.

The next morning she had to go to school so I figured that would be a test.

She got up in the morning and waited a little to long to go potty and didn't quite make it. No problem. She was fine the rest of the day, even at school, except for the pooping.

Yep accident. Same thing the next day. Pee was fine but pooping was not.

Not sure how to handle that business.

We have not gone far from home while doing this. All week she has been fine.

Then we decide to go out of town. Not to far. Just an hour and a half drive. Yep I was a little scared. She took a nap the whole way. I kept asking if she had to potty when she woke up but she said no.

Then we get into the first store and I ask again.....YES!! OK lets run across the store and hurry so you don't pee your pants.

We get in there and she goes. Ok remember she is 3.5. "Mommy it worked!!!!"

I was so proud. Then I remind her to always tell me if she has to go again.

Next store, same thing. Great job honey.
Next store, same thing. Here is where it takes a twist. I then needed to go. So I sit down and go when all of a sudden .....
"Mommy look it is working for you to. Now you get to wipe!!!!" Very loud in the echoing bathroom.

Thanks sweetie, that is great. You are so right.

We continued to go potty in every store throughout the day. I am a very proud mommy. My only concern is no pooping. She went all day with no accidents. Not even in the car. I love this potty thing.

"Mommy look! All my poop is in there." Yep proud mommy and proud baby girl. She finally did it. She was so excited to go poop.

So it has been a week and she is so excited to go to the bathroom. She loves to wear NEW panties everyday. She is still in a Huggies Pull-up at night. Although she pretty much stays dry all night.

Now I know she could revert, I am prepared if she does. For now I will be excited that it finally happened.

Is it too early to train the one who isn't even walking yet? I kid. I have learned that it is better for me not to force them to do something they are not ready to do.

This is called going potty in style. We have since graduated to the big potty and doing great.

Lake Powell Half Marathon and Grandma

So if you follow us on Instagram (mommylandrunner) then you have seen that I became a GRANDma for the first time last week.

Of course you can see pictures....that's what grandmas do right?

Little Man has stole my heart. Just a short while after entering this wonderful world. He is such a blessing.
I love this moment. A father and son moment. Proud new grandpa. Proud new daddy.

Mr.Man meeting his nephew for the first time. He even grabbed his nose to say hi.

This proud auntie about to give him a kiss. She thinks he is so cute.

Of course I took hospital photos. I love how precious this one turned out.

I am so glad that we were able to be there just minutes after this angel came into the world. Pardon the scary 2 am hair lol.
He is so sweet. I am so proud of his mommy. She did a wonderful job. A little scary but she pulled through like a champ. Love you Lynds. So proud of you.
I am also very proud of my step son. He is a great man. He never left her side. He even got to cut the cord. He is going to make a great daddy. Love you K and I am so proud of the man that you are.

Ok, I will stop bragging.....for now.

After coming home on Friday it was time to get ready to run a half marathon. One that I had not really trained for. One that I had just signed up for 3 days prior.

I had not run more than 6 miles when My friend Lexie posted on Facebook she wanted someone to run with. I offered to be a cheerleader. She said sign up.

Well.....of course I did. This was the Inaugural Lake Powell Half Marathon. I am a sucker for first time races.....um Tinkerbell 2012.

So I got up at 4 am on Saturday to go run 13.1 miles. I can do this. I was a little scared. Lexie had just run the St.George Marathon a few weeks prior. I just knew she was going to kill me.

We got there and got our packets. At 6:30 am we were off. We have different paces so I told her to go ahead of me. I run intervals, she just runs lol.

I was just behind her until we hit the trail part of the course. It was not exactly flat like I expected. It was rugged. I somehow hurt the ball of my foot. It made me slow down a bit and I lost Lexie.

The course was beautiful. I loved running it. I kept with my intervals and just kept going at a slower pace. I finally saw this awesome sign.

It was a wonderful site. I had done it. I thought maybe I would finish in 3 hours. I finished in 2.38. Lexie finished in 2.18. I finished with a 12 minute pace. Not bad right? I was happy with it.

I just ran my first half marathon as a grandma!

After getting homeI thought I would not be able to walk. I usually can't after a half. I surprised myself. Not only could I walk but I still could the next day.
My little girl is ready to run a marathon. She even has the headband ready.

I was so happy with my race experience. I have another half in just over a week. I am ready.

Thanks Lexie for the push. Thanks to my family for their support. It was opening day of the deer hunt here and they said go run! Love them.
