10k recap

I don't run very many 10k races. I either chose 5k or half marathon. Today I chose a 10k.

I chose a 10k as my first goal since my return to running. I run a 5k everyday so 10k sounded doable.

The 10k I chose was a virtual one. Since I live in the middle of nowhere and there are not very many races here, virtual is the way to go. Plus an added bonus was it had BLING!!!! Even the 5k races that are local do not have BLING!!! I need something to show for my accomplishment.

My plan was to do the 10k yesterday. Well mother nature had other plans. We got a huge snow storm the night before. My honey was worried about me falling on the ice so I postponed it.

So even though I lost an hour of sleep due to daylight savings time I got up this morning ready to run.

Since it was a St. Patricks Day run I dressed the part. I had these socks on:

I also wore my Team Sparkle skirt:

I have to say they are the best skirts that sparkle that I have ever run in.
I put my Garmin on, my FitBit and turned on RunKeeper. I even had my cute bib.

I was bundled and ready.

I stepped outside at 5:30 and it was COLD!!! My phone said it was 34 but felt like 27. Yep the wind was blowing.
Great a windy run. I hate running in the wind. Well I sucked it up and decided to go for it. I went my first mile in up in the canyon by my house. I got a little scared in the dark. No street lights and stupid me didnt bring a flashlight nor did I think to turn the one on my phone on.

Oh well I just ran really fast. Finally, I got to a point where I had street lights again. 

I set up my RunKeeper to tell me 1 minute intervals. So I ran a minute then I walked a minute. There were times I would just keep running and then would walk for a minute. I felt pretty good till it was time to come back home.....all up hill.

I kept at it. 1 minute run, 1 minute walk. I didn't look at my pace or my time. I just wanted to finish. I estimated 1 hour 30 minutes. I was hoping with the wind to do that.

The last 10k I ran was about 7 years ago and my time was 2:11.

I finally made it home. I was starting to get a little sore in my joints. I stopped right at 6.2 miles and walked the rest of the way home.
I got home and looked at RunKeeper

1 hour and 28 minutes. Beat my own goal by 2 minutes. Set a new PR for a 10k race. I hope to shatter that in the near future.

I got in the shower and just stood there till I warmed up. I rubbed Deep Blue all over my legs and went downstairs and got breakfast and coffee.

For my first 10k post pregnancy and only 3 weeks back into running I would say not bad.  I cant wait to do the next one in a few weeks.
